SGS PERFORMANCES !!

The Band performances on 6 and 7 Aug was indeed a success: A school and a public performance. The Band played 3 songs: Single Ladies and The Wooden Devils, plus National Anthem.

There might be another year end performance for the Band at the Chomp Chomp. More updates will be posted.

Kudos to everyone whom participated in both the performances making it a success! WELL DONE EVERYONE!!

Hey band! I should have post about this earlier but my internet was down. Okay nvm!

Honestly i am very happy with the band performance for Day Camp & also our band outing to Hortpark, Henderson Waves & Sentosa! Great job! The amount of enthusiasm & supportiveness was beyond my expectation. I hope we will also give the same amount of enthusiasm & supportiveness towards our band practice in the future, not only for outing. I hope to see all of you present on the 23rd Dec. On the other note, the committe & majors will be doing band banner starting on the 15th of Dec. I hope many can come down to give suggestions & help out.

Performance for School 50th Anniversary:-

i loved the games. it was very fun and helped us to work together. BBQ was fun. there are a lot of cats. different king of foods were at the BBQ. i hated most was the duration of the camp.too short. thank you for the camp.

i do enjoy some of the activities even though it might not be the best as in less co-operation with others. i guessed the leaders had put a lot of effort to plan out and some games are very interesting such as tug-of-war and wacko.i like the evening walk as i had enojyed the sceneries. sometimes, i guessed we should bond together with all races without on one left out.i hope there will be no one left out for the next time. it is good to bond together but we must bond with everyone. during the BBQ, we should have more food because some of us do not get a chance to eat some of the food.overall the camp had improved from previous, i hope there will have a better of improvement! gd job leaders!

i felt very tired after the camp but it was fun. i also learnt leadership skills. bonded together. know each other better and leanrt that teamwork is important.what i most enjoyed of the camp was that we could play water bomb and go for the boardwalk at changi because the water is free and cant take photo of the nice sceneries.what i enjoyed least about the camp was the BBQ was very little because i did not manage to eat much of the food.

i really enjoy the band camp. but i hope that there will be more outing like go dragon boating,watch movieor many more that are fun and exciting. i also hope there is better venue besides the aloha chalet. the BBQ food was also very nice..overall i really enjoyed the camp..

during this band camp, i get to know all the sec1 names and get along well with them. the games were very fun. the ice breaking games was the most fun because durinhg the tug-of-war we get to know each other better. the ballon bursting game was the most interesting because we get to have fun and also win the game at the same time. in future, i would want the band to have fun and don't get angry with each other over small matters.

i enjoyed the band chalet very much but i find the duration of the chalet short. e could extend the duration of the camp longer so that we can play more bonding activities. the food that we ate throughout the two days was delicious and i'm thankful that the teachers took very good care of us although they were busy. the games that we played were fun. the game tug-of-war was an example of teamwork of how to work together as a team. the hunt was also fun although we were tired. we still perservere and hunt for the sticks till the very end.

i really enjoyed the camp.the tug of war was what i enjoyed the most because we all did it together as a team. i also enjoyed the water games, at the end of the day,i had fun splashing the water and being splashed at even though the water is freezing cold. the food provided was delicious.eventhough the camp was for a short period, i enjoyed it. i hope that we can have another camp but in a long period.

i think this band camp is good for us because it helps us to communicate better with our peeps.we will know them better,understand more about them ans also to work with them so that we can co-operate like what we do in all the band practises.all th games that the leader have plan for us is great and it was fun. especially stepping on each other ballon. for the food, the instructor cooked for us war delicious and we were eating non-stop. we were so full but it was good.

i enjoyed the camp.it was fun as there were games and many activities to do. i enjoyed the games as they were team bonding and had teamwork. it was interesting that we had BBQ and everyone got a chance to do it.

Today is the last day that I will be in the band as a Drum Major...It happen so fast that now I still remember that I just joined the band and now I'm leaving... I DONNO WHAT TO SAY WHAT I CAN DO IS THIS...
May I know do all of you really want to perform for Mr Ong? All your effort and your attitude don seen like! I asked all of you before " if all of you want to perform, please put in all your effort. If you are not willing to, everything is meaningless!" That time all of you made your choice but what is last friday all about?! two week ago, you all played with your effort is good enough for Mr Ong! but last week all of you played with empty heart and wihtout any effort! the whole song is like shit! Every week, I see lesser and lesser come to the practice. Do all of you know how I or others that put in effort feel? To me, is a disappointment and sad! I promised Ms Tan that we will sure put on a good show but what you all did now will disappoint her! Is true that give up is a better choice but do you know you will be wasting your time for coming for every friday? do you know that you are wasting your effort? and this is unfair to those who really want to perform for Mr Ong? How hard we try to make it come true but all of you just want to give up?! All of you are just selfish! Everytime I get the scolding! Do all of you know that? Even the senior think that I ruined the Band! Even Ms Tan told me I 'm the worst leader she ever had... I really felt that I'm a failure as a leader. I can't let all of you put your true heart to play for Mr Ong. I agreed I'm the worst leader but can all of you just put in your effort once? I can agree any complain like I backstab, make use of ppl, Useless, ruined everything and the band also don respect me...everything that all of you said, I can keep to myself but I really wish all of you will respect my decision once and that is enough... I promised...I really don wan all of you to waste your effort and time... on last friday,11january2008..
all of the band members had performed two songs for the sec 1 orientations.. pop in the spots and midnight escape..
mr ong said that our performances was more than average... this is a good sign and a good improvement!! hope that our next performances will be improve more and become better!!

Breathing [PART II]

[Suspension]
This is the 2nd shortest step in breathing
when you had filled your lungs to capacity,hold the "full"
position momentarily;the torso should remain expanded
and the throat open while you set the diaphragm and
abdominal-wall muscles for exhalation
Failure shall result dizziness,breathy tone and sharp in pitch,which quickly
loses resonance and becomes softer and flatter.
The brief suspension provides the muscular support that
must last for the full duration of the tone.

[Exhalation]
for wind instrument players,this is the active phase that requires the most control and finesse.
this control is provide by the tension between the diaphragm and the muscles o the abdominal wall and chest cavity.
Try to keep your rib cage wall expanded while simultaneously allowing the abdominal wall to contract towards its rest position.As the abdominal muscles press against the lungs ,the air is forced out.

Think of the chest as reserve tank,use only or EMERGENCIES!
Remember that muscular control is the key to breath support and that it takes more abdominal tension to play softly than it does play loudly.Do not tighten your throat even running low on air Actually constricting the throat muscles will do the opposite,restricting the air stream rather than propelling it out.

[The Diaphragm]
When teacher speaks of diaphragm they are generally referring to the abdominal muscles,the diaphragm cannot actually push air out of lungs.[see previous post to discover why]
Nor diaphragm can "support the air column"--that being the job of the abdominal wall ad ribcage muscles.Support is the isometric action of the tension between the diaphragm and abdominal muscles,which control the rate and pressure o air release.

breathing is a 3 step process.

Inhalation(inspiration),suspension and exhalation(expiration)
the third stage is the most important
the ability to control exhalation with the lungs and
abdominal muscles before the air stream ever reaches the embouchure.
Breathing is a musical tool,because breath functions as
the line of demarcation between phrases

[Posture]
Good posture will obviously result in production
of the best possible tone.Always assure the body is in
the position most conducive to breathing.
IT allows the air to proceed unimpeded.

Standing:we should be relaxed but without letting our shoulders droop.
Upper body may tilt just slightly forward,
chin should be parallel to ground to keep the top air passage fully open.
**Always adjust the music stand etc according to us never the other way round.
One foot should be a bit in front of another to ensure balance.

Sitting:hips should lean slightly forward,One foot should be a bit in front of another,soles
FLAT ON THE FLOOR!

Under no circumstances should you cross the legs;constriction of abdominal muscles would result.

Inhalation:`Relax your abdomen open your mouth and throat inhale through your mouth.
open your mouth as if saying "AH" in order to let the air pass through quickly.
Allows air to fill the abdominal cavity so middle torso expands both front
and back.

Other part of your body should remain stationery.Do no pull in your "stomach" cox u'r making a exaggerated one.Try take in as much as as possible,as quickly and With a little extraneous noise as possible o.0

When you inhale:The diaphragm[dome-shaped muscles just below the rib cage]

moves downward, causing the lower ribs to move upwards and outward.This educe air pressure in lungs so that air pressure outside them exceeds that inside and rushes in.In effect lungs vacuum air in.
Practice breathing in front mirror;this will help you avoid several common errors:opening the mouth too wide and gasping for air,and an even more common mistake,lifting the shoulders.
